Let a Local Expert Plan Your Dream Campervan Trip to Iceland!

Iceland is a destination like no other. The country’s breathtaking landscapes are bound to mesmerize anyone who visits, offering everything from pristine glaciers to volcanic hot springs.

With its unique culture and endless possibilities for adventure out in nature, Iceland is the perfect place for campervan travel. But we understand that not everyone has the time to research and create their dream itineraries. Luckily, Go Campers can help you with a customized Iceland itinerary.

When it comes to creating the perfect, custom-made Iceland itinerary, there are a few different ideas that we consider. For most, the main question will be whether there’s enough time to do a loop around the ring road or not. This 830-mile route takes travelers around the entire island, allowing them to experience the best of what Iceland has to offer in just a few days. And with a customized itinerary in hand, you can be sure that you won’t miss out on any of the highlights.

If you're looking for a more leisurely experience or are a bit short on time, there are plenty of other options as well. Doing the Golden Circle and along the South coast is a popular choice, and then there are also destinations like the Reykjanes Peninsula and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula which offer up a bevy of wonderful Icelandic sights, most of the time without the crowds.

And then for nature lovers, the Westfjords are a fantastic option - one of our favorite destinations in the entire country. But how do we go about stitching it all together into one fantastic trip? It can be difficult for travelers to know what to include and what to skip - and that’s where our customized Iceland itineraries come in.

How We Personalize Your Custom-made Iceland Itinerary

When it comes to crafting the perfect Iceland itinerary for you, there are a few important factors we need to consider. We’ll already know how many days you have the campervan for, but what we need to know is the kind of attractions you’re interested in seeing.

Are you looking to experience the glaciers in all their glory, or are you more interested in visiting as many natural hot springs as possible? Or perhaps you’re interested in seeing the country’s famous waterfalls?

We’ll discover all these things after you’ve filled out our travel questionnaire, which is sent to your email after you’ve made a booking for a customized Iceland itinerary. The process is designed to help us understand as much as possible about your expectations for your campervan trip to Iceland.

After you’ve completed the travel questionnaire, our travel expert (meet him here!) will have a great idea of what you’re looking for in a trip to Iceland. Whether it’s a classic ring road trip that hits all the major sights or delving into an area in more depth, you’ll be sure to receive an incredible itinerary that takes all the stress out of planning your campervan trip to Iceland.

The Top Activities in Iceland

There are plenty of activities to do in Iceland. If you're interested in exploring nature, there’s hiking to be done, as well as glacier hikes, whale watching, and natural hot springs. If you're more interested in culture, Iceland is filled with intriguing museums, fantastic local restaurants serving unique cuisine, and plenty of festivals and live music.

Once you've completed the questionnaire, our travel expert will begin crafting your custom Iceland itinerary. Taking into consideration all the answers you’ve given about your expectations for the trip, he will draw on his years of travel experience in Iceland to design an incredible road trip for you.

This customized itinerary will include everything you’ll need for an unforgettable journey, letting you hit the road with confidence as soon as you’ve picked up your campervan.

Best Places to Visit in Iceland

When crafting customized Iceland itineraries, there are probably a few places that you'll want our travel expert to include right off the bat. These are the country’s unmissable sights, such as the Golden Circle, waterfalls like Skogafoss, and of course the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Most of these will likely be included unless you otherwise tell us not to.

Other options you might want to consider are Iceland’s famous hot springs, such as the Blue Lagoon or Myvatn Nature Baths. There are lesser-known options as well, such as Vök Baths outside of Egilsstadir and the Forest Lagoon near Akureyri. If you want to include any of these, all you need to do is let us know in the questionnaire and we’ll schedule some time for you to do so. The same goes for tours such as glacier hikes, horse riding, quad-biking, or anything else.

You'll also want to consider some of Iceland's stunning national parks. Vatnajökull National Park is the largest park in the country and home to a variety of glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Þingvellir National Park is an important historical site and home to some of Iceland's best hiking trails (part of the Golden Circle). Finally, Snaefellsnes National Park is a beautiful oasis at the tip of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, featuring epic lava fields, volcanic craters, black sand beaches, and of course the glacier itself.

How Long Do I Need For the Ring Road in Iceland?

If you’re after a custom itinerary for Iceland’s ring road, there are a few things you need to know. We think the minimum amount of time you need for the ring road in Iceland is 5 days. Although, it must be said that a 5-day Iceland itinerary around the ring road might feel rushed. This is especially true if you’re the type of traveler who enjoys taking your time and soaking up the sights.

A 7-day Iceland itinerary is better suited for the ring road. This gives you enough time to see all the major sights, as well as some of the hidden gems along the way that our travel expert has discovered over the years.

The minimum number of days necessary for a customized Iceland itinerary is 3. There is no maximum.

The Best Time to Visit Iceland

The best time to visit Iceland depends on what type of activities you're looking to do. If you're looking to take advantage of the country's many outdoor activities, such as hiking, glacier walking, and whale watching, the best time to visit is from May to September. During this time, the days are long, and the weather is mild, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

If you're looking to experience the country's vibrant culture, the best time to visit is from mid-June to mid-August. During this time, the days are at their longest and the country is bustling with activity.

If you're looking to see the Northern Lights, the best time to visit is from mid-September to mid-April. During this time, the nights are at their longest and the sky is usually clear, making it the perfect time to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.
